The fifth Award, in 2004, went to the Amity Hall Development
Committee. The Amity Hall community, lacking piped water, planned
and implemented a project to entomb a spring above the district and
gravity-feed water through scavenged mains into some sixty
households in the community.
Guest speakers at the award functions have been Mr Randall Robinson,
President of the Washington-based TransAfrica Forum; Dr Ralph
Gonsalves, Prime Minister of St Vincent & The Grenadines; Professor
Rex Nettleford, Vice-Chancellor of the University of the West
Indies; The Most Hon. P.J. Patterson, Prime Minister of Jamaica; and
Ms Diane Abbott, British Parliamentarian.

The Michael Manley Lecture is an annual event to mark the birthday
of Michael Manley, December 10. The inaugural lecture took place in
January 2003 when the distinguished

on Caribbean integration after Michael Manley".
The second lecture was delivered on December 10, 2003, by Sir George
Alleyne, Chancellor of the University of the West Indies (UWI) and
Director Emeritus of the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO/WHO),
on the subject: "Globalisation and the challenges for Caribbean
health".
The third lecture, staged on December 10, 2004, the 80th anniversary
of Mr Manley's birth, was delivered by his daughter Rachel, a
celebrated poet and biographer, on "The quest for a Caribbean
