Why A Foundation

Develop a public, non-partisan institution which will serve the Jamaican, Caribbean and international publics in gaining knowledge of Michael Manley, his public life, work and intellectual legacy.

Manley was, among other things, a politician. Hence much of his work -- and some of the responses to his work and ideas -- had to be partisan by definition. But Manley's greatness lies in the extent to which his work transcended the confines of Party and addressed broad epochal concerns. In the same way, the non-partisan Michael Manley Foundation will work with all persons and institutions, nationally and internationally, that are committed to preserving and studying the contribution and work of Michael Manley.
